I am new to the club and I have a question: How do I remove the center piece of the steering wheel? It is not the typical horn ring setup that you simply push in and twist.

I do believe that they just twist off. There isn’t a push in to it. It simply twists off. It may be a little rusty but with a little work it will come off. I also have a 64 Mercury Marauder with the upgraded steering wheel although it is still in storage for a couple more weeks. Once out I can definitely check it out on mine. If you have any other questions, don’t be afraid to ask. Thanks Wayne

Thank you for your reply Wayne. I still can’t get it to move. I even used my leather belt as a strap wrench but no luck. It is not an emergency, I just want to get my new horns working.
If you do end up seeing if yours comes I would like to know.
    Thanks again,
    Jay

P.S. I learned a lot about the offset shafts that attach the lower control arm to the front crossmember on our 64′ Mercurys. I put straight ones in and the front end is tight and will now stay in alignment. If you are having trouble with yours I can share what I learned while doing the job.
