I’m in the middle of converting my 52 Monterey convertible with electric windows to 12 volts.Does any one know who sells a voltage drop from 12 to6 volts? The front windows work well but if you don’t stop the window before you put a strain on the window gearing the gears jump teeth.this is a noise that scared the crap out of me while driving. I hope that the voltage drop will stop this and possibly prolong the motors life span.Does any one know if you can swap window motors from a 56 mercury into a 52 mercury?
I would guess NAPA or any other parts store would carry these resistors. I did see on their website that Speedway Motors has them. As to your question regarding the 12 volt window motors from a ’56 working in this application I don’t know. I do know from past experience that the motor from a ’55 will not work in a ’53. By the way, those 6 volt motors do not mind running on 12 volts as long as you do not overload them.
Thanks Virgil, the six volt motors are doing fine but they seem to be much more powerful than before.instead of changing motors,do you think I could set up some thing in line on the hot wire that would momentarily stop the motor before the window gears start to skip? Thanks Mike
Decided to install limit switches.thanks again.
Good to hear you figured out a solution.
